KARACHI: Pakistan International Bulk Terminal Ltd (PIBT) on Monday signed an agreement with Reko Diq Mining Company (RDMC) to handle and export copper-gold concentrates from the Reko Diq project, marking a major milestone in Pakistan’s minerals and logistics sector.

The agreement follows PIBT’s execution of a Supplemental Implementation Agreement with the Port Qasim Authority (PQA), which authorises the terminal to handle, store and export copper-gold commodities, including minerals, metals and other natural earth resources, according to a press release.

Under the arrangement, PIBT will act as the primary logistics and export gateway for Reko Diq’s mineral output, strengthening Pakistan’s role as an emerging regional hub for mineral exports. Operations related to the project are expected to begin from 2028 onwards.

PIBT Chief Executive Officer Sharique Azim Siddiqui said the agreement would facilitate exports from one of the world’s most significant mining projects and serve as a cornerstone for national economic growth.

Barrick Mining Corporation’s Group COO and Interim President and CEO Mark Hill said the partnership with PIBT represents another important step in ensuring that the Reko Diq project delivers long-term value to stakeholders, particularly the people of Balochistan and Pakistan.
